You Get What You Pay For

Published by darlingadmin on

Everyday and all day on on Facebook I see folks asking for a reborn. No problem right? Well the posts I am referring to are the ones that ask for a baby for $100 or $150. Heck some even ask for babies under $100! Does it ever occur to folks that you cant hardly even purchase the kit for that? And not to mention paint, hair, clothes, and heavy forbid the countless hours it takes to make a true reborn, life like doll.

I have been doing this for 16 years. In September of this year, it will be 17 years. Never in 16 years have I been able to make a baby for under $150. I am in no way commenting on anyone’s artistic ability. I am talking about common sense. If I sold a baby under $250, I would be in debt. That’s just taking into account supplies. It takes me 7 to 10 days to complete a baby and that is when things are going smoothly and I will be the first to tell you, the road to completion is rarely smooth. If I complete a baby in 14 days, I am doing good.

I see so many folks on Facebook buying these cheap dolls and then coming on to the social media platform to complain about the doll they received. All I am going to say, is if someone is selling you what they consider a quality reborn doll at a cheap price, a red flag should go up.

Buy from artists that value their work. If they value their work, they will charge for it. They aren’t just slapping a doll together to make a buck.

I have had people complain to me about my prices. Little do they know at the price I sell my babies at, I am barely making minimum wage. If you don’t like my prices, please just move along. I don’t want to be rude, but I refuse to work for free or to go into debt giving a doll to someone I have worked 80 or more hours on. It amazes me when folks feel they are entitled to that.

Sorry I just had to rant. People selling cheap and awful quality dolls to folks that are really unaware of what they are getting into and it is ruining this industry for true artists that take the time to use quality products that cost $ and take the time to do things the right way. Art cannot be rushed.

Just remember the cliche saying, “You get what you pay for!”
